Gem’s Burmillas

breeding healthy and happy cats

Gem’s is Born

My first kitten was a bright and beautiful Balinese girl whom I called Magic, and I will always remember her with the greatest of love. My second cat was a dim, but very sweet Chinchilla male, called Fluffy. Together they made adorable kittens and I felt very privileged to help them make the best start in life. Of course, all those years ago I knew nothing of what being a responsible breeder involved.

Much later I became a mature student, and it was not possible for me to have any cats, but I did manage to pick up an adorable ‘Big Kit’ – my husband.

Gary was a dog man and I thought I wanted long haired cats, but we were about to meet our first Burmilla!

I fell hopelessly in love with Burmilla in 1998 when I saw my very first Burmilla, Summer of Lakota and her kitten at a cat show. I could not stop staring at their beauty as they bewitched me completely with their large expressive green eyes and that wonderful sparkling silver coat. The kitten was totally relaxed upside down in its owner’s arms. I kept on returning to gaze at them. From that moment on I knew I must have a Burmilla.

In 1999 Kartush Senhaper became my first Queen and later Athamas of Athenais joined us as our loving stud cat.

Since then, our Burmilla and Asian kittens have won many awards and titles and have enriched our lives tremendously.

We are proud that our Burmillas have been featured in the Beautiful Cats book and in the Royal Canine, Cat Encyclopedia.

We love seeing the great pleasure our kittens and adult Burmilla adoptions give people.

We specialize in Black, Brown and Chocolate Silver Shaded Burmilla.

Each of our Burmilla’s are individual, special and precious just like a gemstone. Therefore, we chose Gem’s as our breeding prefix, and it is a happy coincidence that GEM also spells out my husband’s initials.

And Gary? He is now totally a Burmilla cat person – Burmilla do that to you.

Thank you for visiting our web site we hope you like it.

Appearance & Character

Here are the characteristics we think make this breed so special.

Burmillas are beautiful.

Burmillas have clear green eyes that are hypnotically beautiful. Their eyes are outlined in the same colour as their coat, which makes them look as though they have been made up like an Egyptian prince or princess.

The Burmilla has an easy to care for short dense silky silver coat that can be tipped or shaded in different colours. The unique silver base to their coat gives these stunning cats a sparkle, which is particularly apparent when the sun catches their coat.

No other breed of cat can match a Burmilla for temperament and character.

These cats just want to be with people, they capture your heart as soon as you see them.

Burmilla have outgoing, intelligent and loving natures. These are the most affectionate of cats and will follow you around waiting for a lap to settle into or a game of fetch to be offered.

Their unique qualities come from the founding breeds. They have the playfulness and intelligence of the Burmese combined with the laid-back beauty of the Chinchilla.

If you are looking for an ultra-affectionate cat that is fun to be with without being overly demanding and has outstanding beauty, then a bewitching Burmilla is the only cat that will do.

Love Story

Burmillas have one of the most romantic of origins.

In 1981 a female lilac Burmese, Bambino Lilac Faberge and a male Chinchilla, Jemari Sanquist decided, despite the best efforts of their human owner Miranda von Kirchberg, that they would not be kept apart from each other any longer. The result of this accidental ‘love match’ was four gorgeous female kittens all with black shaded silver shorthaired coats, stunning green eyes and superb temperaments.

In this way the first Burmillas were born. Burmillas were so named because of the Burm in (Burm  ese) and illas from (Chinch  illas)

Kitten & Adult Adoptions

All our kittens are brought up in our home with love and care.

We only have one or two litters a year to ensure that each kitten has lots of individual attention.

Only healthy cats are used to breed, and the happiness and safety of our kittens is always our paramount concern.

All our adult Burmillas and kittens are registered with Felis Britannica (felis-britannica.org.uk) the UK member of Federation Internationale Feline (fifeweb.org) so you always receive an official pedigree. They are fully vaccinated, health checked, micro-chipped and insured with Petplan before leaving home at 14 weeks.

We specialise in Black, Brown and Chocolate; Silver Shaded Burmillas. Occasionally we might have an Asian kitten which come in other colours and patterns.

Because demand for these bewitching kittens is always more than the number of kittens available, please be prepared to wait for a kitten.  Please note we only sell to indoor only homes – no exceptions.

Like any other responsible breeder, we will ask questions about you and your home, this is to ensure that our kittens only go to safe and loving homes.

We expect you to have lots of questions for us and we are very happy to answer these.

We hope you keep in touch as we invest a great deal of ourselves in each kitten and they will always be part of our cat family.

Occasionally we have ex breeding adult Burmillas available to rehome. These are the very best of the breed and make wonderful pets especially for older people who do not want a lively kitten. Please note these Burmillas need to be the only cat in the home. They will be neutered before leaving and a rehoming fee will apply.

Our small cattery is in East Sussex and serious prospective new owners are very welcome to visit and meet our Burmillas.

If you are looking for an ultra-affectionate cat that is fun to be with and has outstanding beauty, then a bewitching Burmilla is the only cat that will do.
